A tandoor (Turkish: Tandır, Arabic: نور‎ Punjabi: ਤੰਦੂਰ, Persian: تنور, Hindi:तन्दूर, Urdu: تندور, Bengali: তন্দূর, Armenian: Թոնիր) is a cylindrical clay oven used in cooking and baking.

The heat for a tandoori oven is generated by charcoal, Gas or Electricity burning within the tandoor itself, thus exposing the food to live-fire, radiant heat cooking, and hot-air convection cooking, and smoking by the fat and food juices that drip on to the charcoal. The Temperatures in a tandoori oven approach 480°C (900°F) thus the falling juices from the meat or the vegetables make it a smoker by default thus imparting the smoked flavor in the food which is irresistible.

The tandoor should be given the designation of the most natural smoker cooker since one does not require any wooden chips with water etc to create smoke – the juices dripping from the food being cooked create the smoke making it the ultimate smoker cooker.
